About The Cocker
General Description:
The cocker spaniel is a medium sized dog that grows to a shoulder height of between 15 to 16 inches and a weight of between 12 and 15 kgs. Healthy well cared for cockers have a life span of around 11 to 13 years.
Cockers are gun dogs and as such are very adaptable and easily trained. Cockers originated from the field spaniel and were originally bred to flush out game from the undergrowth and hedgerows.
There are over 20 coat colours which include colours with tan points that are recognised in the cocker.
Cockers are a fantastic addition to the family as they have smashing temperaments and are very friendly and happy little dogs - they are not known as the merry cocker for nothing!
The cocker spaniel is equally at home in front of the fire or out and about investigating the countryside.
Cockers thrive on human company and will follow you everywhere around the house. They can be left for short periods but are much happier when they have human contact.
Coat care
The cocker has a long silky coat which with regular care can be easy to take care of and looks beautiful.
If the coat is not kept clipped it will need regular grooming on a daily basis otherwise it can matt.
Many new owners learn how to trim their cockers themselves others prefer to visit the local grooming parlour around every 8 weeks.
